Why Bitstack is asking for your tax identification number

You may have noticed a new request in your Bitstack app: to provide your tax identification number (TIN).

We know this may come as a surprise. Your tax identification number is personal information you shouldn't have to share without understanding why it's needed, how it's protected, and what it means for you.

That's why we want to explain what's changing.

A new European requirement

Since January 1, 2026, a new European regulation called DAC8 has applied to crypto-asset platforms like Bitstack.

Its purpose is to improve tax transparency by requiring platforms to collect certain information about their customers and transactions, and report it to the relevant tax authorities.

This requirement applies across the regulated European crypto industry, not just to Bitstack.

The first reports will be submitted in 2027, covering transactions made during 2026.

DAC8 doesn't introduce a new tax or change your personal tax obligations.

What about your personal information?

We understand that protecting your personal information matters.

At Bitstack, your tax identification number is stored in encrypted form and is no longer displayed in the app once submitted.

This information is collected to fulfil our regulatory obligations, not for commercial or advertising purposes.

Protecting your data is part of the trust you place in us. We take that responsibility seriously.

What you need to do

Simply provide your tax identification number directly in the app:

Settings → Personal information → Tax residence

It takes less than two minutes.

If you're a French tax resident, your TIN is a 13-digit number that you can find on your tax notice.

If the required information isn't provided after the applicable reminders and deadlines, we'll be legally required to suspend certain transactions on your account. Your euros and Bitcoin will remain yours.

Our goal is to avoid any interruption to your experience.

Since day one, our ambition has been to make saving in Bitcoin simple and accessible to everyone. That also means being transparent when regulations change.

Our commitment remains the same: protect your trust and help you build your financial future, simply.
